Janakaraliya gifts a Theatre Arts Centre to Rajarata

Celebrating a 10-year journey from village to village conducting drama festivals and educational programmes on theatre and arts whilst promoting social integration and harmony, Janakaraliya will take a temporary rest to gift a Centre for Theatre Arts at Anuradhapura.

Named as ‘Rangasharanee’, the centre situated close to the Anuradhapura town at Canal 5, Sravasthipura above the Alankulama Tank will be ceremoniously opened on Tuesday, September 3. While being used as a drama institute, Janakaraliya has planned to maintain ‘Rangadharanee’ as a centre for theatre and drama education and appreciation of theatre arts for youth.

With the inauguration ceremony of the centre, the newest Janakaraliya production Henry Jayasena’s ‘Hunuwataye Katawa’ will be performed on September 3 and 4 at ‘Rangadharanee Theatre’.

The new version of ‘Hunuwataye Katawa’ is directed by the creator of Janakaraliya, Parakrama Niriella. The performers of the newly created drama are Sanjeeva Upendra, Dilip Rohana, Ronika Chamalee, Dinesh Swarna Sri Livera, Selvaraj Leelawathie, Palitha Abeylal, Rasaiya Lohanathan, Arosha Tharanganee, Sumudu Mallawaarachchi, Sarath Banagala, Inoka Lankapura, Murugesu Ajanthan, Thiyagaraja Sivaneshan, Vijitha Hettige, Yasho Prasad and Janith Dissanayake, Amila Dinesh Kumara, Samanlatha Disanayake, V. Kadiragamar, V. Thyagaraja, M.G. Madeera Udishani, Kumareshan Mahendran, Thilini Nimesha, Daminda Mendis and Nipun Nirmal Bandara.

Ronika Chamalee assists in direction while makeup is by Palitha Abeylal. Sumudu Mallawaarachchi directs music. Theatre Lighting by Ajantha Shanthakumar. Costumes are by Suvineetha Perera and settings and stage properties by Rohan Samaradivakara.
