On April 27, 2013, a group of Dutch students from the school Greijdanus in Maples, Netherlands, along with a teacher and a ZOA representative visited Trinity College Kandy for a friendly  conference. Their trip was organized by ZOA and the
‘Sri Lanka Unites’ organization.

The organization ZOA was established in 1973, in Vietnam, in the hopes of helping disaster affected countries; helping people who were forced to flee to refugee camps, to ensure protection. The ‘Sri Lanka Unites’ organization too have similar motives. They plan on developing the war-affected parts of Sri Lanka and continue to engage actively in relief efforts.

Hence the trip was organized to strengthen the relationships of the countries by giving them  opportunities to talk about their culture, traditions, ethnic groups, festivals, food, history and their schools. We learnt many interesting facts about their country. Indeed, it’s very different from ours.

They said they usually had bread for breakfast and sometimes dinner too, and a special steak for lunch. We Sri Lankan students also learnt about their variations in clothing and transport, their education systems, their sports and many other interesting facts.

When asked why the organization chose Trinity College, Kandy for the conference, they replied that they wanted to experience the whole culture of Sri Lanka, hence Trinity College was chosen as students from different castes, creeds and religions are educated here. They also added that it was because it has a long history of over a century.

At the end of the conference the teacher from Greijdanus was presented with a silver tray with the Trinity College Kandy emblem on it as a souvenir. Everyone present were given Greijdanus notebooks and a pen as souvenirs, and were whole-heartedly thanked for the efforts put into making this programme a success.
