The Portuguese commander Pedro de Abrew punished Illangakoon Mudliyar due to his treachery. The Portuguese forces stationed at  Attapitiya, Menikkadawara, Thalampitiya, Kuruwita, Opanayake, Walewala and Katugampola faced a dangerous situation.

The Rebel leader from Negombo was Kananngara Arachchi. He was a resident of that area. Therefore General Azavedo decided to take over Negombo before sending troops to help the forces in trouble. So, Azavedo ordered  Simon Corea to go to Negombo and defeat Kannangara Arachchi.

Samarakoon Mudliyar also sent his relative, Don Manuel Mudliyar with Simon Corea’s forces to crush the rebellion.
But, Antonio Baratto a Lascar of Samarakoon’s army, killed Don Manuel. He then led another huge rebellion.

The Portuguese forces at Attapitiya were engaged in a great battle against the rebels. After severe losses they surrendered, but they were massacred by the rebels. Meanwhile, Antonio Baratto conquered Kuruwita.  He also surrounded Sitawaka.

The Portuguese forces marched to Sitawaka. They rescued the forces stationed there. Afterwards they were sent to Ruwanwella and Menikkadawara to save the embattled forces there. In the meantime King Wimaladharma surrounded Thalampitiya and caused great damage.
