A nature lover, Deeman Ananda who has experience in controlling giant honeybees, is to provide his expertise for a research to be carried out on giant honeybees.

The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology of the University of Peradeniya intends to conduct a study on venom toxicity, as well as properties to use for curing diseases.

Prof R.P.V.J. Ranasinghe of the Department of Veterinary Pathobilogy, said that they would be seeking the services of Mr Ananda for the study.

“We are planning to use bees and giant bee colonies to prevent elephant/human conflicts in villages. We are also planning to use their salivary secretion for medicinal purposes”, Prof Rajapaksa said in a letter to Mr Ananda.

Mr Ananda’s services had been earlier sought to clear bees from the international cricket stadium at Pallekele and in Sigiriya.

“I will be able to provide my knowledge and expertise in the study, and will be looking forward to assist them in whatever research project they are conducting,” Mr Ananda told Education Times.
