Sri Lanka Tourism authorities have recently come up with plans to conduct a series of meetings with the relevant stakeholders chaired by President’s son and parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to engage persons on the current issues concerning the industry.
As part of this initiative discussions were carried out on issues pertaining to the low occupancies amidst arrivals to the country that were expected to increase by the end of this year, officials said.

During the meeting held at the end of June the stakeholders brought up key issues pertaining to the way forward for the industry and other issues relating to police, environment and the municipality that need to be sorted out, industry sources said.
It was noted that Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa had advised authorities to allow these meetings to be chaired by MP Rajapaksa in a bid to effectively address these issues and seek solutions.
Industry officials point out that the drop in guests to top hotels were also discussed and they were confident that as part of the promotions drive initiated by the Sri Lanka Promotion Bureau they would be capable of improving on the numbers.
