Ivan Alvis, a Sri Lankan journalist and a guest writer for the Lanka Times Melbourne, won the 2013 Friends of Thailand Award, in the International Media category. The glittering awards ceremony was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on the evening of Wednesday, June, 5th, 2013.

Ivan is seen here receiving his award from the Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports, Somsak Pureesrisak. He is the very first Sri Lankan journalist to win the Media award. Prof. J. B. Dissanayake, former Sri Lanka Ambassador to Thailand, also received an award, in the Individual category.
