The Attorney-General has given the go-ahead for non-summary proceedings against the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha chairman, the main suspect in the 2011 murder of a British national in Tangalle. Charges will be issued on the chairman and seven other suspects, said Additional Solicitor-General, Suhanda Gamlath.

On February 20, Tangalle Magistrate K. U. T. de Silva postponed the inquiry for March 6, when the Police informed Court that they were awaiting instructions from the Attorney-General.  Eight persons were remanded as suspects in the murder of British tourist Khuram Shaikh Zaman on Christmas Eve 2011. They are also charged with causing grievous injury to Mr. Zaman’s Russian partner, Victoria Alexandravona.

On November 19 last year, the Tangalle High Court released the eight suspects, including Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha UPFA chairman, Sampath Chandra Pushpa Vidanapathirana.
