Joes beat Gateway in U17 North Zone basketball final

St. Joseph’s College, Maradana clinched the boys’ Under 17 Colombo North Zonal basketball championship when they defeated Gateway College, at the latter’s court on Monday.

At the short whistle the Josephians held a slim 29-27 lead.

Nisal Cooray, with 17 points, led the way for the Josephians while Bhanukaka Gamage added 13 and Charane Anthony scored five.
For Gateway College, M. Liyanage 14 and S. Amarawickrema 8 were the main scorers.

Michila Liyanage of Gateway was adjudged the Best Defensive Player, while for the Josephians, Nathesha Wijendran and Kisal Cooray won the awards for the Best Offensive and Most Valuable Players respectively.

CIS win consolation over DSS

Colombo International School won the consolation final of the boys under 17 Colombo North Zonal basketball tournament when they inflicted a 59 to 49 point defeat on D.S.S. Senanayake College at Rajagiriya on Monday. At half time CIS led by 31 points to 24.
Tarik De Silva 18 points, Hashen De Silva 14 and Ruzaik Rheyas seven played best for the winners.

For D.S.Senanayake Mihad Jayah 18 and Sachintha Jayatilake 10 played best.
