Dr. B.J.C. Perera was inducted as the President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) by the outgoing President Prof. Vajira H.W. Dissanayake on January 12 at the HNB Towers auditorium in Colombo.

The objectives of the SLMA, the oldest medical organisation in Australasia with a history going back to 1887, are to promote the advancement of medical and allied sciences, to propagate information and diffuse knowledge among its members; safeguard and maintain the honour and interests of the medical profession and society; and consider matters pertaining to medicine in all aspects and promote the interests, welfare, rights and privileges of its members.
