Locally-based knowledge-sharing portal youthlink.lk was launched recently with a stated purpose of which is to “promote the exchange of ideas, ambitions and causes of young people across the island”, according to a media statement by Sarvodya Fusion, the Sri Lankan Information Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) organisation responsible for this online portal.

Further, according to the statement by the NGO; “Partner organisations involved in the development of YouthLink include the Ministry of Youth Affairs, United Nations Volunteers (UNV), Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL), AIESAC, Connect Lanka, Sarvodaya Fusion, and Microsoft among few others more”. There are 18 different partner organisations in total as per the details provided .

Additionally, this media statement also quoted Isuru Silva, Manager of Sarvodya Fusion, as commenting: “Young people from the north, east, south and west will be able to discuss the issues they face and work together to find solutions. Users of the service will be able to engage directly with the organisations [that] exist to support them and directly influence both policy and practice”.
At the same time, he also added; “We have great hopes that the voices of young people expressed through YouthLink will be incorporated into the proposed National Youth Policy that is currently being prepared by the Ministry of Youth Affairs. We encourage young people throughout Sri Lanka to visit the site and have their say on the decisions that will affect them in the coming years”.
Meanwhile, the statement also noted that youthlink.lk included; “the Voice forum where opinions, issues and ideas could be expressed, a perspective section which allows finding out on the ongoing project activities, programmes, capacity building workshops and similar events conducted for youth by different organisations.

The step-up area helps in career guidance while it also showcases employment opportunities waiting to be picked up, the ‘in action’ segment highlights upcoming events, projects and volunteering opportunities that are of high interest, to the youth while the network arena acts [as] a directory listing all organisations working for youth in Sri Lanka”.
