The Sundaytimes Sri Lanka

A breathtaking rainy day

Poem for the week
View(s):

Through the window of the bus, I watched for long,
Listening to the steady patter of the rain’s soft song,
Watching children splash in puddles and sailing paper boats,
People hastily hurrying along with their thick scarfs and coats.

The rain began to increase, and darker clouds arrived,
I deeply envied the playing children outside,
Thunder struck! Umbrellas were borrowed and lended,
The colourful array
looked as though the
rainbows had descended.

Slowly it did cease,
this wild storm,
And I wondered as I reached my home,
How many beautiful things I’d seen on my way,
On a ‘very ordinary’ rainy day.
