Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara’s debut film ‘Gamani’ collected the major awards winning the Best Film of the Year at the maiden ‘Derana Lux Film Awards’ held at Musaeus College Auditorium recently.

Rear Admiral Weerasekara won the Best Director and Best Screenplay for his film ‘Gamani’ while the film also won most of the major awards.

‘Gamani’ won the Best Actress for Dilhani Ashokamala, Best Cinematography for Ashoka Sigera, Best Editing for Ravindra Guruge, Best Art Direction for Sunil Wijeratne, Best Makeup for Priyantha Dissanayake, Best Sound Mixing for Kalinga Gihan Perera, Best Background score for Nadeeka Guruge and Best Fighting Director Ritigala Sumedha.

Among the other awards to ‘Gamani’ were Best Actor-in a Supporting Role (Kumara Thrimadura and W.Jayasiri), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Anurudhika Padukkage, Best Actor in a Negative Role (Darshan Dharmaraj) and a Certificate of Encourgement for Child Artiste (Geshini Ruwindika Ishadini)

Young Pubudu Chathuranga walked away with the Best Actor for his role in ‘Challengers’ while Udayanthi Kulathunge was adjudged the Best Up-and Coming Actress.

The coveted Most Popular Actor and Most Popular Actress went to Ranjan Ramanayake and Anarkalli Aakarsha.
Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Ashoka Handagama won a special award as Best Director for Cinema of Tomorrow for his latest film ‘Ini Avan’.
