My lovely August vacation

On August 31, we went to Yala. We woke up at 5.30 a.m., and we left Colombo at 6 a.m. It was a short journey to Galle by the highway express. We had breakfast at Galle beside the shining blue sea. As it was a long weekend, the streets were very busy. We reached Yala at 12.15 p.m., and we stayed at our Aunt’s bungalow ‘Katagamuwa Piyasa.’

The bungalow was fantastic, enjoyable and had wildlife surroundings. The cook was awesome, making delicious, tasty food. We had a heavy lunch and rested for awhile. In the evening we went to the Yala National Park in a safari jeep.
It was very dusty, but adventurous. We saw peacocks, jungle fowl, buffaloes, wild pigs, elephants, peahens, eagles and crocodiles.
At that moment, a baby leopard was looking for its mother and was crossing the road. It was so near, that we could see the leopard closely.

We took lots of photographs too. In the night, my relations and I played carom. It was fun! As we were tired we fell asleep so soon. It was really sad to go back home but it was an unforgettable trip for everyone!

The elephant

The elephant is a very large animal. It has four legs and a long tail. It has two large ears, two small eyes and a long nose called a trunk. The elephant also has two long teeth called tusks.

Elephants help to carry loads. Elephants are kept in temples. Children love to ride on elephants. Elephants are fond of sugar cane and bananas.

A morning walk

Nature is best in the morning. This time is very pleasant. I go for a morning walk during the holidays. I go to a jogging track which is situated in Dalupitiya. This is a short distance away from my home.

In the morning, the air is cool and very fresh. The birds sing happily. The peacocks dance in the fields. There are dew drops on the green grasses. The fresh air refreshes my mind and body. I walk barefoot.

My morning walk gives me happiness. It purifies my blood. I enjoy the morning walk very much

Peace – the right for all!

Peace is something where everyone has the right to live without any violence. Today, we hear of many distressing stories of vulgar and violence. There are many wars that are being fought especially in Syria. Libya too had a disastrous war.
The UN has declared September 21 as the International Day of Peace.

The lack of peace causes people to lose their loved ones. Children lose their parents, relatives and also the right to have a good education. If the future generation is to be a good, useful generation, then peace is of great importance.
For many countries, peace is a far-off dream. We can see on television what is happening worldwide.

Countries are being divided. The best example is Korea. It has been divided into North Korea and South Korea. Sri Lanka was almost divided but we gained freedom. All thanks to our President, His Excellencey Mahinda Rajapaksa and our three forces – Army, Navy and Air Force.

Sri Lanka and all other countries in the world, will celebrate the global peace day on September 21 this year. This day calls for non-violence and peace for all people. We should try our best to do this everyday.

Now our country has gained freedom and we are living together as one nation.

The person I admire the most

The person I admire the most is Dr. Rajapaksa. Her clinic is at Himbutana. She is very kind and always has a smiling face. Whenever I fall sick, I go to her for treatment. She feels very sorry for me. She calls me Queen because I am the only girl in the family of two brothers.

I wish her good health and long life. One day I hope to become a doctor.

Water

This is water. We get water from taps, rivers and wells. We cannot live without water. We need water to wash, drink, bathe and cook. Plants too need water. Animals too need water. We must not waste water.
