A lot is said these days about garbage and other waste which is left to rot on the city streets. There are others however who make a profit of this same garbage.

A group in Pettah work for a private cleaning firm -and garbage collection is their business.Discarded cardboard boxes, newspapers, tins, polythene, plastic and scrap iron are among the items collected by the group and later sold to a collector for a reasonable fee.
The collector transports the day’s collection to a location outside the city where the garbage and other materials are separated.
They are then recycled and turned into different articles

A garbage collector earns an average of Rs. 1,000/- per day depending on his/her collection

The garbage is separated and weighed
