Colombo marathon determined to grow internationally

Although foreign participation in the Colombo Marathon is still relatively small, Thilak Weerasinghe, the head of the travel agency which organizes the annual event, is optimistic of its potential to grow into an internationally prominent city marathon.

“We are very much optimistic of the future of this event although the foreign participation is still at low levels. We are confident that we could position it as one of the best among the City marathons in the region,” Thilak says.

Last year’s marathon saw the involvement of 2600 runners, out of which 97 were foreigners from 27 different countries. The year’s edition, which is scheduled to take off on October 7, is set to see an even greater participation.
