Outrage over Obama punching bag

View(s):

A punching bag depicting Barack Obama as a boxer with a black eye has been removed from the Republican Party tent at an Indiana fair after some fairgoers complained. Delaware County GOP spokesman Tom Bennington told The Star Press he thought the bag was placed outside the tent by party leaders. ‘It’s gone. It won’t be there tonight,’ Mr Bennington told the paper.

He said the bag was ‘meant in fun’ to illustrate that Republicans hope to defeat Obama in November. Not everyone got the joke. Numerous fair visitors – including at least one Republican – voiced concerns.Brad Oliver, a college administrator seeking an open state House seat on behalf of the GOP, left the fairground in protest over the punching bag. The candidate said it was his duty to ‘help our children learn the art of political civility and the need to listen and respect the diverse views of others.’

Obama is somebody we want to defeat. It was all meant in fun. But in reality I considered it a little offensive myself,’ Mr Bennington told the Star Press.’I'm retired military and I respect the commander in chief.’

The punching bag, which is manufactured by Big Mouth Toys, is sold on various websites for around $14.
‘Whack him in the head, and he falls over, but he jumps right back up,’ the company says.
On the inflatable toy, the President appears wearing red shorts and boxing gloves and sporting a black eye.
The Bop Obama is 54 inches tall and is recommended for 14 to 15-year-olds.
