CR win but Army protest

CR&FC made a gallant fight back to turn tables on Army Sports Club and nick a close 22-20 win in their Dialog Division A Club Rugby match played at Diyagama yesterday. However, the game belonged to the Soldiers who led by 15-5 at half time, from three unconverted tries against an unconverted try. Guided by their two New Zealand players Sabi and Luke eventually CR bounced back to add 14 more points to their tally off two converted tries.

They trailed the game by 19-20 right till the end and sealed the win with a penalty. Both New Zealanders made all the scorings for CR. Epi Copahafiga, Abeyratne, Hapugaskumbura and Saliya Handapangoda scored a try each for the Soldiers. However Army SC officials told the Sunday Times that the vital penalty was not cleanly converted though it was confirmed by the referee and touch judges. The Army SC manager further added that they have video evidence and a protest has been lodged with the match referee against the final result.
