Trinity run riot to crush St. Joseph’s

By Aubrey Kuruppu

With the three quarters having a field day, Trinity College registered a shut out win over St. Joseph’s College in a Singer Schools’ Div. I Group ‘A’ rugby league game at Pallekele yesterday. Trinity truimphed by 41-nil.

Greater passion and territory enjoyed by the Lions, thanks to their sheer hard work enabled them to lead by 24 points to nothing at lemons. Lions collected their points off three goals and four tries whilst blanking the Joes. Lions could have made a greater impact only if their centres Thisila Karunathilake and Lochana Girihagama valued the fruits of team work.

Yet, Girihagama was in the forefront scoring three tries for the lions while winger Kanishka Yatawara, lock forward Randika Alwis, fly half Tharinda Ratwatte and Halique Wadood added a try apiece with Karunathikale adding the bonus points on three occasions.

Upon resumption Joes looked dangerous with some threatening moves but lacked the finish and thus could not make any headway. Irshad Ariff refereed.
