Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year picked

The Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012 competition has almost come to an end. The Sunday Times readers who followed the competition are well aware of the outcomes of all three categories by now. However, the final verict of the competition will be published next week.

Meanwhile last Wednesday (23) a panel of experts sat to select the best out of the best performers from the concluded school cricket season. The panel was headed by veteran cricketer and ex-national selector Jayantha Seneviratne and was ably assisted by former national cricketer Brendon Kuruppu who also has been a former national cricket selector. The panel included officials of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA), Association of Cricket Umpires of Sri Lanka (ACUSL) and the Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (APCU).

Carlton Bernadus, the head of junior cricket of Sri Lanka Cricket too was present at the occasion. Others who were in the selection panel are Upul Sumathipala and Aubrey Kuruppu. Representing Bata were Chamath Kumara, Chamara Priyanga, Ajit Bodinagoda (Costing and Efficiency Manager), Vikas Anand (Company Manager and CEO), D.N. Thilakumara (HR Manager), Sanath P. Balasooriya (Institutional Sales Manager) and Prasanna Andaraweera (Business Manager, New Retails).

Assisting heavily on the selections were ACUSL officials Nihal Pathirage, Keerthi Gunaratne, J.A.K.S. Indrajith, Kapila Jayalath, Dilshan de Silva, U.G. Saman, N.A. Saman de Silva, Vidura Prasad and Rusiru de Silva while Asoka de Silva and Ignatius Anandappa too contributed their expertise on behalf of APCU.

The list of names of the winners of the Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year awards ceremony will be published on 10 June.
