Hiding in toilets

A four-day sports meet took place at the Athletics Stadium recently. On the fourth day the officials who worked tirelessly at the meet were to be paid but those who were supposed to make the payments were missing! A search was launched - high and low - but the officials could not be traced. It is said that these officials were hiding in toilets because they had not received the monies that was to be paid to the angry officials.

No drugs test
A clear cut policy at school rugby games these days is to carry out random drugs tests on players. However at a key schools game in the nearby seaside resort a test of this nature was carried out. But five rugby players belonging to the home team were reported to be absent. That is how these five players missed the drugs test.

Cold War
All arrangements are being made for an Asian junior athletic meet to be held on June 9 in Colombo. However the people involved in organizing the meet are being carried out by a Development Department belonging to a certain sport. In reality it should be the athletic big wigs who should be involved in a matter of this magnitude. They say that a ‘Cold War’ is now raging between these two sets of officials.

Pocket money
Players are wondering how a certain coach belonging to a beach game has managed to pocket the monies that were supposed to be given to the players for meals. It is said that this coach has saved quite a lot by serving sub-standard meals to players. It is a case of giving cheap meals and pocketing the rest!

Staggering sum
A big man was heard saying that all their money problems will be over by February and the game is on a good wicket. Now we have reached almost the end of May and still there is no sign of settling the monies meant for the players. Insiders say that the debt crisis has hit 90 billion! How on earth will they be able to settle this staggering sum?

The waiting game
A certain lady is in charge of a big sporting event to be held in September this year as she is dealing with only the world body and not with the local guys. It is however learnt that this lady may get the boot and a dusky former cricketer will get this job. Let’s wait and see.

There she goes
A top lady athlete residing abroad was brought down to take part in a meet in Bangkok with the hope that she will qualify for the London Olympics. She was paid her air-fare and pocket money to the tune of 1500 Dollars a day for expenses. She was there fo the first two days and on the third day when her services were really wanted she was missing. Apparently she had abandoned camp without even informing the officials who had brought her to Bangkok. A case leaving without even saying bye to the mat she slept on!
