Dual citizenship scheme needs 3 months for implementation

The new Dual citizenship scheme, called the “Overseas Sri Lankans” scheme, which was revived with Cabinet approval this week, may take about three months before it is implemented, officials said.
The new application form will be made available only after the scheme is fully finalised.

With the Cabinet’s approval, the Citizenship Act of 1948 and the Immigration & Emigration Act of 1948 needs to be amended to formalise the scheme, they said.
