Deserter shoots girlfriend, her mother before turning gun on himself

An Army deserter opened fire on his 20-year-old girlfriend and her 46-year-old mother at Kurudugahamada in Katugastota last morning killing them both, before shooting himself and sustaining injuries, police said.

The girlfriend’s 52-year-old father who was also injured in the shooting was admitted to Kandy Hospital. In addition to sustaining gunshot injuries, the 28-year-old suspect, a commando, had been beaten up by the girlfriend’s brother and had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Kandy Hospital.
Police said the weapo used for the double murder was found in the house where the tragedy took place.
A Katugastota Police team under the direction of Senior DIG H.M Ambanwela and DIG G.B Peramuna are conducting investigations.

Kandy Hospital’s Neuro Surgeon Dr. Ranjith Wickramasinghe said the condition of the soldier was critical.
