Junior TT players in Thailand

The Sri Lanka junior paddlers left for Thailand to take part in the Junior and Cadet Open International and ITTF World Junior Circuit Table Tennis tournaments which began yesterday (5) in Pattaya, Thailand. The championship which will be held until May 9 will feature 18 junior paddlers representing Sri Lanka. Nine boys and nine girls, a total of 18 with the majority from outstation schools will compete in Under-12, 15 and 18 age categories.

The girl’s team is represented by Chandima Madushani of Mahamaya, Kushani Pitigala of Southland Galle, Avindi Nisansala and Imasha de Silva of Dharmasoka Ambalangoda, Muthumali Priyadarshani of Devananda Ambalangoda, Pavani Sirisena of Maliyadewa Kurunegala, Praveena Silva of Girls High School Kandy, Hansani Piumila of Anula Negegoda and Roshini Dahanaka of HFC Kurunegala.
The boy’s team comprises of Supun Sirisena and Nuwan Jayasundara of Maliyadeva Kurunegala, P.D.U. Tennakoon and Chamidu Tennakoon of Dharmaraja Kandy, Probodana Rodrigo of St. Anthony’s Kandy, Chinthaka Ekanayaka of Vidyartha Kandy, Shehan Shanaka of Devananda Ambalangoda, Lithmina Mahanama of Wesley and Chathura Gunasekara of Sussex Kandy.

Former national player and Vice President of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, W. A. Buddhasiri is the manager cum coach on tour. Former women’s national champion Namal Gunasekara and Thushara Sampath are the other coaches. M.A.R. Pathirana accompanies the team as the lady chaperone. - NA
