Doramadalawa controversy

Right of reply

Attanayake M. Herath has written to the Sunday Times to say he was not informed of a cancellation of the programme Doramadalawa on the ITN network.

He was commenting on last week's political commentary where it was reported that he was to appear, but was asked to stand down to accommodate the President's Secretary and the Defence Secretary who explained the Kumara Gunaratnam abduction incident.

The presenter of the programme Hasantha Hettiarachchi has also written in to say that the President's Secretary and the Defence Secretary were invited as professionals and not on any political basis.

He says the discussion was pre-scheduled and that the two Secretaries were invited to participate a day before the Gunaratnam incident so that there was no need to call off the participation of Mr. Attanayake M. Herath.

“The Defence Secretary was only answering questions raised by me on missing persons. There was nothing pre-planned,” he says.
