By Sanath Weerasuriya, Pix Neil Siriweera

Waga in Hanwella is not a popular tourist destination, though it has the same climatic conditions like Hatton after the sunset. With two major reservoirs - Labugama and Kalatuwawa are in close range to Waga, making this rain forest hilly area more green and cool.

‘The Nature’s Resort’, the only resort in the area, is located on a 12 acre greenly land. It is no secret that the serenity and splendor of nature is a splendid tranquilizer. Nesting between six acre of Rambuttan, orange and Mango and another stretch of seven acres of rubber/coconut on the other side, ‘The Nature’s Resort’ is just the solution to ease the tension and stress of living and to breathe in the freshness of nature while being away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Yet it is just one hours drive from the busy Colombo life.

The stream that runs down the slope of the rubber estate adds further beauty to ‘The Nature’s Resort’ which is situated In the midst of a hill and is supposed to be about 150 years old. It acquires more beauty because it has been constructed according to traditional architecture of that era.

‘It was a walawwa of a well to do people, but the generations down got neglected due to lack of attention. I acquired this property a couple of years ago and turned it to a luxury villa for holiday makers’ said Kamal Wijesiri, the proprietor of the Nature’s Resort. The old bungalow has three double rooms in the ground floor and a family room in the upper floor with a large sitting area. In addition there are separately built three air conditioned cottages.

The Bungalow and the new wing have ample space to accommodate around 20 people. The luxury with classic style in each room is derived from old antique furniture which has been refurbished to meet today’s requirement. Each of the bedrooms has its own unique character with all of them having en-suite bathrooms with separate bath and shower.

The three luxury cottages with AC, attached bathroom with hot water, fully tiled floor and brand new wooden furniture. Each cottage consists of a double bed.

‘Our well maintained 7 acre garden offers a peaceful retreat for the weary traveller or businessman. It has facilities and space to play outdoor games like Cricket, Volleyball and Badminton’ said the Manager Edward White.

The swimming Pool is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens is an oasis of peace and tranquility.
The restaurant has the Mountain View from one side and lush greenery with the rubber plantation from other side. The place is surrounded by a mini jungle and rubber plantation.

The restaurant provides traditional Sri Lankan cuisine from an a la carte menu. In addition, Chinese, Western or Indian menus are available to suit the taste of any local or foreign guest. ‘Nature’s Resort is a popular place for company and family day outings. It is also a popular place for honeymooners. Special buffet packages can be arranged for travel groups on prior notice’ Kamal said.

The resort has the facility for weddings, homecomings, birthday parties and any kind of get together. Guiding on nature tours to nearby attractions – Kumari Ella, Ranmuthu Ella, Labugama and Kalatuwawa reservoirs are popular attractions close to the resort. ‘Locations for camping and adventure activities too are available with the equipments required are on your side’ he added. Cycling across the rural surroundings and trekking in the woods and paddy fields are added activities for the eco tourist. Adventure holidaymakers who visit The Natures Resort have enough sites to camp and engage in other activities.

The local version of the Disneyland ‘Leisure World’ is a main attraction for kids just a couple of kilometers away from the town.
