Kumara and Deepani win Southern Province marathon

Upul Vijitha Kumara and Rupika Deepani won the men and women’s marathon races at the Southern Province Carlton Marathon competition recently. The event was held in conjunction with the 38th National Sports Festival where 64 athletes took part in the men’s category and 17 runners raced in the women’s category. Vijitha Kumara who won the men’s event represented the Alpitiya Divisional Secretariat. Chamila Nishantha representing Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretariat was placed second while Chamith Rangana who represented Bentara Divisional Secretariat won third place.

The women’s winner Rupika Deepani represented Bentara Divisional Secretariat. Eranga Dulakshi from Tissamaharama Divisional Secretariat was placed second while Tharangani Sewwandi of Bulatiyana Divisional Secretariat was placed third.
