Galle International Stadium management to be regularized

Plans are underfoot to regularize the management of the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The Sunday Times understands that Sri Lanka Cricket and the Galle Municipal Council have agreed in principal to sign a new agreement of the management of the stadium and to regularize its finances.
Previously all income to the Galle Cricket Stadium went to the Provincial Cricket Association where no proper audit was maintained about its financial balances.

The agreement to hand over the financial handling to the Provincial Cricket Association had been taken in 2004. Now with the new agreement all income from the Galle International Cricket Stadium will come directly to Sri Lanka Cricket and it will be controlled by the treasurer of the SLC with a team from the SLC and the Galle Municipal Council handling the management.

Tomorrow the first cricket Test between Sri Lanka and England will be played at this venue.
The first Test at this venue was played against New Zealand in 1998 and Sri Lanka won that game by an innings and 16 runs.
