Ajith and Champika win Nestomalt Marathon

Nestomalt Half Marathon

Ajith Bandara of Army and Champika Malkanthi of Police emerged winners in the first leg of the men’s and women’s Nestomalt Half Marathon which was held at Kuliyapitiya yesterday.

The winner of the men’s and women’s Nestomalt Half Marathon Ajith Bandara and Champika Malkanthi poses for a picture with their trophies along with Chandana Fernando, Sales Manager Nestle PLC and Prema Pinnawela, Secretary of AAA.

The 21 kilometer even saw the experience Ajith hit the tape first with a timing of 1.08.12secs pushing his team mate G.K.K.S. Gunasekera to the second slot with Navy’s Gayana Chathuranga in third place.
The women’s event also run in the same distance saw Champika Malkanthi clock a time of 1.24.57 followed by Disna Malkanthi of Air Force and Ruwani Nisansala of Air Force.

Meanwhile Ajith Kumara of Parakramabahu JV and Nishanthi Dilhari of Kuliyapitiya MMV came out on top on the 10km boys and girls marathon which was run concurrently. This was the first of four Nestomalt Half Marathons to be held this year and the event at Kuliyapitiya saw the participation of over 1400 athletes around the island.

Women’s – (1) Champika Malkanthi (Police) 1.24.57. (2) Disna Malkanthi (Air Force) 1.27.35. (3) Ruwani Nisansala (Air Force) 1.27.38. (4) V. Chrishanthi (Kandy) 1.28.35. (5) D.G.N.D. Wickramasinghe (Kurunegala) 1.30.31.

Boys – (10km) – (1) Ajith Kumara (Parakramabahu JV) 35.26. (2) Asela Sandaruwan (Bandaranayake MV Puttalam) 35.43. (3) Pradeepa Jayakody (Nakkawatte National School) 35.54. (4) Gavindu Sanjula (Kuliyapitiya MMV) 36.19. (5) Nishan Priyanga (Bopitiya MV) 36.32.

Girls – (10km) – (1) Nishanthi Dilhari (Kuliyapitiya MMV) 37.09. (2) Maneesha Ishani (Kuliyapitiya MMV) 41.20. (3) Achini Malshani (Kuliyapitiya MMV) 41.30. (4) Shanika Madushani (Bandaranayake MV Puttalam) 41.41. (5) Dishani Wijepathirana (Anamaduwa MMV) 41.47.
