Gabo breaks away

Gabo Peiris, well-known business entrepreneur and one time popular musician passed away after a brief illness last week. Talented drummer Gabo made his name popular in the music scene with popular outfit ‘Gabo and The Breakaways’ in the Seventies.

He was one of the music legends instrumental in the success of bands like the Jetliners, Spitfires, Sam the Man and The Breakaways. Prominent musical personalities like Desmond de Silva, Raj Seneviratne, Alston Koch, Mignonne Fernando and others made it big during this golden era in which Gabo reigned as one the most sought after musicians. He was one of the finest drummers in the music scene some decades ago.

His experience as a cabin crew member of the national carrier in his younger days indeed exposed him to various music cultures of the world which he blended to suit the local audiences. He started his GABO Travels group of companies in the seventies playing a vital part in the countries travel and tourism sector.
