Gateway College Colombo 4 (Bambalapitiya), which belongs to the premier International School network of Gateway Colleges, has recorded considerable success during a short period of time. The new International School that is conveniently located in a colonial style premises in Vajira Road, Bambalapitiya, was opened in January 2009.
 An efficient and enthusiastic group of teachers guided by its Consultant Mrs. Noreen Welikala, a founder Principal of a leading International School in Colombo, provide a loving and caring atmosphere where children are able to learn and play – shedding their inhibitions and developing confidence in themselves. The school provides a wide range of sports and extra – curricular activities and is fast gaining popularity with parents living in Colombo South and its suburbs.
The recent Sports Meet of the school held at the Sugathadasa Stadium where all children from Play Group to Year 6 participated was a resounding success. The Chief Guests – Chairman, Mr. R.I.T. Alles and the Managing Directress, Mrs. Rohini Alles, were received warmly by the staff, students, parents and invitees. The item by the Percussion Band, the creative class items and the “Umbrella drill” by 52 students were the highlights of the day. The staff, visitors’ and obstacle races provided much fun and hilarity.
During a short period of 3 years, Gateway College Colombo 4 has provided its students with a variety of activities such as Dramatic productions, Singing & Oratorical Competitions, Literary and other clubs to enhance and build up the total personalities of children.
Discipline in school is stressed, while religious and social values play an important part in the daily life of a child. Children learn to respect each other’s beliefs and cultures. All religions are given equal emphasis on the school calendar and all religious festivals are celebrated. Social Service projects are also conducted from time to time and the children are taught to care for the less fortunate.
These activities will no doubt be a prelude to many more successful events by Gateway College, Colombo 4. Classes are now being conducted from Playgroup to Year 6 and will go up one grade each year, to provide education up to London Edexcel Examinations.
