Navy women stickers strike it rich

The Sri Lanka Navy women’s hockey team.

Sri Lanka Navy women’s hockey team trounced Air Force by four goals to nil in the final to emerge champions at the Colombo Hockey Association invitation inter-club knock-out hockey tournament 2012 worked off at the Malay CC Grounds in Colombo.

At the breather Navy led 2-0 with left inside Buddhika Gunaratne scoring both goals. After the change of ends Buddhika netted her third successive goal to compete the hat-trick while right inside Madushani Jayaneththi scored the final goal in favour of Navy to seal the 4-0 victory.

In the run up to the final Navy (one goal each from Chaturika Wijesooriya, Maneesha Dissanayake, Madura Dharmaratne and Nadushani Jayatilleke) beat BRC 4-0 while Air Force (Koshila Pathirana and Susanthika Themiyadasa one each) beat Colombo Colts (Dinesh Perera one) 2-1 in the respective semi-finals.

The Navy women’s team was skippered by former Seetha Devi Girls, Kandy sticker and National player Pradeepa Nandasena and was coached by Sri Lanka’s National Coach M.A.M. Ashroff, a product of St. Sylvester’s College Kandy.

Sri Lanka women’s team excelled to win both league and knock-out championships 2012 conducted by the Colombo Hockey Association.
