A piece of cake for Ishara Madurangi

Sri Lanka’s six-member team to the Asian Table Tennis Championship to be held in Macau from February 23 to March 1 will leave the country today. Rohan Sirisena, Nirmala Jayasinghe and Dinesh Deshapriya make up the men’s team, while Ishara Madurangi and schoolgirls Erandi Warusavithana and Umaya Tharaki comprise the women’s team.

The team won’t be wanting for lack of practice as they have been hard at it over the past several weeks at the indoor facility off Peradeniya. Rohan Sirisena has been particularly sharp and impressive at practices. However measuring up to players from China, Korea and Japan will be a real test of his mettle. With competition being slightly less rigorous on the female side, it is felt in TT circles that the national champion Ishara Madurangi should acquit herself creditably. - AK
