First innings honours for Trinity with Dinuk and Akila centuries

Magnificient hundreds from consistent Dinuk Wickremanayake (150 not out 23 fours, 3 sixes, 195 balls) and Akila Jayasundera (131, 18 fours, 1 six, 184 balls) enabled Trinity to go past the Josephian total of 286 and claim first innings honours in their drawn match at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Trinity slid to 58 for 6 early on daytwo, before the Wickremanayake - Jayasundera duo joined forces in a mammoth seventh wicket stand of 266. Wickremanake, who is having the time of his life, cut and drove superbly, while Jayasundera was his usual aggressive self.

Supeshala Jayatilleke, the under 19 left arm spinner, toiled long and hard to take 4 for 41. On the first day, Jayatilleke who made a hundred, combined with Pethum Madusanka in a hundred and fifty five run stand for the 9th wicket.

Draw at Kurunegala
The Sylvestrians who enjoyed a 39 run lead over St. Anne’s on the first innings, had their opponents at 95 for 5 but failed to finish them off. As a result, the match played at Kurunegala ended in a draw.
Annite Anil Jayaratne (57) top scored in the match, while team-mate Madusan Wickremasinghe also passed fifty. Paceman Rohan Dias (5 for 42) bowled best for the home team.

Vice captain Waruna Wijesinghe did well for the Sylvestrians, while spinners Sumedha Dissanaike (five) bowled best.

St. Sylvester’s 150 in 44 overs (F. Ahmed 23, M. Wijesinghe 49, H. Perera 19; R. Dias 5 for 42, S. Perera 3 for 40) and 70 for 3 in 22 overs (F. Ahmed 17, M. Madushan 17, H. Perera 20).

A superb spell of bowling by Sri Rahula’s off spinner and skipper Rajitha Ranatunga (6.5-1-14-8) and a brilliant all-round performance by left arm spinner Roshan Subasinghe (6 for 24 and 79) helped them to beat Nugawela Central by an innings and 50 runs in their Under 19 tournament match at Katugastota.

Sri Rahula was superior in batting and bowling, but the Nugawela lads fielded well.
The match was over after 20 minutes on day two.
