Renown scores thrilling win

Renown Sports Club recorded an emphatic win while Blue Star SC and Java Lane settled for a thrilling draw in two Dialog Champions League football tournament encounters played yesterday. At City Football League Complex in Colombo, Renown SC beat Nandimitra SC by 3 goals to nil to record a strong win.

In the first half Mohamed Zain and Mohamed Anam scored two goals to give Renown a resounding lead at half time. Dimuthu Priyadharshana scored the third goal to give the winners a perfect conclusion of the battle which was much dominated by Renown. Meanwhile Blue Star and Java Lane recorded two first half goals each as they ended their game in a thrilling 1-all draw at Vernon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara. Mohamed Najeem potted the solitary goal for Blue Star while Java Lane’s young Sharwan Johar stunned the home team by scoring an equaliser.

Both teams failed to score in the second half. Two other matches scheduled for yesterday were rescheduled for today. The match between Air Force SC and Navy SC will pinch the attention as the outcome of this encounter will decide the third place team in the league. The match will be played at Katunayake. Army SC will take on Police SC at Seevali ground in Ratnapura.
