Amazing Thailand

From our Kid Reporter
Shenali Liyanage, Musaeus College, Kid Reporter No. A-01

We landed in the ‘Suwarnabhumi’ Airport, Thailand. The airport was huge! Much bigger than the Katunayake Airport. I was so excited. We were picked up by the ‘First Hotel’ cab service. On the way, I saw how neat, clean and wide the roads are. We were travelling at great speed, because we mostly travelled on highways. On the sides of the highway, pink papery flowers named ‘Bougainvillea’ are grown. It is a very pretty sight.

After resting for a while, it was time to explore the city Bangkok. The roads did not have zebra crossings, for road crossing is done with bridges. I think road accidents are reduced by this technique. When crossing these bridges, you get a wonderful view of the road. The vehicles travel in many lines and most taxis are pink in colour. This makes the city more colourful and beautiful.

Though the Thais use a lot of polythene, they dispose it very carefully. They never throw it on the pavement and pollute the environment. Pavement shopping is fun. People sell all kinds of fast food like kebabs and also fruits, hair accessories, handbags, shoes and much more. Not only pavement shopping, shopping malls are a great attraction too. These buildings are huge but unique. I even saw a building shaped like a rocket!

The Thai people are really busy so most people do not care to smile and nod at foreigners as we do. Beggars cannot be seen very much but we did see a few of them. Some earned money by singing or
playing musical instruments. I saw a blind girl singing a beautiful song and walking, begging for money.
School children are really free in Thailand and I think they enjoy their present life very much.

However, the Thais are very religious too. Most of them are Buddhists but some worship gods like God Ganesh. Buddha statues and statues of gods can be seen a lot in Thailand. Also, the Thais respect their king and queen and after the king dies, there will be no more kings but a president.

Thailand is a truly amazing country and I’m happy Sri Lanka is improving too. The Golden Temple, the King’s Palace and floating market are more wonderful places in Thailand.
