Thurstanite Salgado takes initial lead

The Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012

The Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the year 2012 competition kicked off in style on January 1 and the collection of two weeks’ coupons clearly indicated the colossal lead gained by Thurtan College’s Sajeewa Salgado in the All-Island category.

Two cricketers from Royal Panadura, Charith Ruchiranga and Kavindu Ashan, has joined the pursuit while St. Benedict’s skipper Jason Perera will have all the possibilities of creating a healthy competition in weeks to come.

In the Emerging Schools only four cricketers have entered the competition but with the number of coupons received so far the big changes can be expected in the near future. Nevertheless Shenal Dilanka of Piliyandala Central has the edge by a single vote against other three competitors who has gained a vote each.

Meanwhile Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda is enjoying a one-horse-race in the International Schools category being the only competitor. Readers will have the opportunity to send in as much as coupons which will keep on appearing until May 23.
