Ranidu launched his newest album ‘Hinahenne Mung’ (I’m Smiling) at a glitzy musical concert at the Bishops College Auditorium last Friday. The show was named Hinahenne Mung which was also the name of the title track of the album. Ranidu is a natural musician and it took only an instant to what he was all about eventhough he’s living in US and studied at the Yale University.
Renowned percussionist Jananath Warakagoda opened the show with a classical number before Ranidu took off with a couple of well composed slow numbers that was dedicated to his entire family. It was nice to see him behind the keyboard in true R&B style with only the guitarist accompanying him in those songs which were new to his album.
Then it was time for his hit music that made it to the world billboard chart and his renowned collaborations. He performed a few songs with Ashanti before she went on to perform a medley of her hit songs.
Not forgeting Anarkali fast rhythmic collaboration with Ranidu. It was unforgettable due to its video like performance. I have to mention that the Derana city of dance troupe performed well in their latest hip hop style with many unforgettable stunt moves.
Ranidu took time to remind us of Trail SL for which he sang the theme song with the Derana Dream Star Upeksha better known as the whistling girl.
For all Ranidu’s fans sake I wish we get to see and hear more of him in the New Year. |
