New Years Eve Dances at Galle Face Hotel

Join in the merriment as throngs of revellers gather at Galle Face Hotel to usher in the best New Year 2012 in fitting style with popualr band Anno Domini and DJ’s lined up to rock till the wee hours of the morn.

‘ANNO DOMINI’ will come alive on New Year’s Eve at the Jubilee room at the Galle Face Hotel who will hold a gala International dinner buffet from 8.00 pm onwards. Exciting prizes and surprises are on the cards and tickets are priced at Rs. 8000/- nett per person.

Ever popular ‘ANNO DOMINI’ since getting together 7 years ago has progressed towards achieving its aim of creating a distinct sound and identity of its own, and carving a niche in the Sri Lankan music industry. A.D plays a vast and varied repertoire from standards to Dance, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Latin, Jazz, Country, Blues, Folk and Ballads.

‘BORA BORA’ Dance organized by AMUSEUM special events will come alive on New Year’s Eve at the Patio of Galle Face Hotel. Bora Bora was started in 1997 by Music producer / DJ and founder, Gee Moore it rapidly became one of the most famous cosmopolitan beach club concepts in the World. Beach Gum! The revered GALLE FACE HOTEL established in 1864, one of the most exquisite hotels in East of Suez, with its antique colonial charm and the backdrop of the Indian Ocean will inject a beautiful quirkiness to the part of BORA BORA ambience.

Traditions exalt at MLH with Gospel Jazz Brunch

Gospel Jazz Brunch is a tradition at Mount Lavinia Hotel. The hotel will celebrate this iconic event on 26th December at the Terrace from 11.30am to 3.00pm.

‘Sintonia’ and ‘Choro Calibre’, two well known jazz musicians/choirs will be performing on this day, with the spectacular spread of delicacies synonymous to New Orleans. As it very popular in New Orleans, African-American churches burst into song with the joyous sounds of gospel, yet another musical genre deeply rooted in the city of New Orleans and now at MLH.

‘Sintonia‘, an acoustic jazz quartet defines contemporary funk and jazz with its blend of sophisticated original compositions and a unique treatment of the classics adding a vivacious sound to the local jazz repertoire.

The working ensemble approaches a regular quartet format from a new perspective creating a unique ensemble sound. The foursome reflects the true heart of Funky Jazz and its sound is based in part on compositions of the Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Randy Crawford and the contemporary favourites including Michael Buble, Rihanna, Bruno Mars & Taio Cruz.

Sam at Blue Water

Ever green Sam the Man will come alive at the Blue Water Hotel in Wadduwa on New Years Eve.
Sam will be in action at the state of art ballroom of the hotel together with a popular DJ.
He will also join the New Year party at the Blue Wave Night Club. ‘Sam the Man’ performs at Harbour Room at GOH on Saturdays and at Kosgoda Beach Hotel on Tuesday and Fridays on a regular basis.

Mica in action at Gateway AGH

‘Mica’, a popular name in the local music scene, will be in action at the Taj Gateway – Airport Garden Hotel on New Years Eve.

This four piece band runs with three fantastic and experienced voices of three brothers and a female singer with a range of different instruments. Classical guitar, bass guitar, Kahon, flute, mouth organ, still guitar and percussion section are some of the out of box instruments they use on stage.

Mica gets all encouragements from Derek Wickremanayake and he manages the band.
‘Derek is my master and I got trained under him. He always support and mange us to improve our performances’ said Lakmal Fernando, the leader of Mica.

Lakmal popularly known as Lucky is a singer guitarist, composer and a sound engineer by profession. He performed with the band Purple Rings and toured many Middle East countries, Europe, Thailand and Singapore.

The lead singer Nalin Fernando is also a talented percussionist and he plays Kahon, the African drums for Mica. Dhanushka Uyanhewa is the female vocalist of the band and she started her music career in 1999 with the band ‘Cherish’ and followed by ‘Inspirations’. She plays still guitar, flute and mouth organ.Bassist Krishanthe Fernando is an all rounder. He plays bass, keyboards for Mica Unplugged band.

‘Mica’ comes alive in action at the Breeze Bar on Mondays, Heist Bar of the Continental Hotel on Tuesdays, Water’s Edge on Sundays, Excel World on Saturdays and SSC Club House on Friday nights.
