By Pramuditha Lankathilaka (11 years) Moratuwa

He is a great master of Karate. He is Sensei Sadaaki Sakagami. He is famous because he is the fourth Grand Master in Karate. He was born in Japan. His hair is black. He has very powerful karate moves. He is famous because he is the best in Karate in Kata and Kumite. He goes to many countries to train other
people. What I can learn from his life is, if I want to be a great karate master, I should also be a good sportsman.

What a Prefect means

By Mohammed Affan (14 years), Brighten Int. College, Colombo 10

Every individual has different duties, which they provide for their parents, children and friends. But being a prefect means a different thing, which is provided for school by the senior pupils.

If we come to this position, we should work hard. The teachers’ and principal are expecting a lot of hard work and good behaviour from us and they trust us.We should be helpful to them and to the school.
Before we are chosen as prefects, we should have good understanding, patience and unity among ourselves. These are the essential factors that a prefect should have.

I think we should treat the other children friendly. We should give advice about discipline, obeying the teachers, respecting elders and about good habits. The teachers are also working hard so they can’t watch the children all the time.

That’s why I came to the conclusion as a good prefect to help the teachers and to create a peaceful society among the students.

Farewell O’ Angel!

By Maryam Fairoos (15 years), Kolonnawa

I know that I’m writing this to the best teacher in the world. Ms. Azraa, Maths was like Greek to me before you came. They say that ‘Life equals Maths’ and we were trying to figure it all out, and then God sent you here to put the doubts out. Thanks to you teacher, Algebra is a friend now!

From the first time that you stepped into our class and took the challenge – you truly were a lifesaver. We love you loads and will miss you, for on the 28th of October we will be saying farewell to an Angel!

My unforgettable holiday

By Ian Jayasuriya (Year 2), Colombo Int. School

Chips, club sandwiches, cheese toast and hot chocolate… Yummy! And this is what I enjoyed mostly at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Our family went to the Golf Club during my school holidays and we had fun. I learnt to play golf. I enjoyed my golf lessons a lot.

Next, my parents took me to the children’s park where I played with the other children.
We went shopping as well. I enjoyed my holiday in Nuwara Eliya very much.

Water

By Aqilah Naleem (Grade 7), Ilma Int. School

Water is composed of oxygen and hydrogen. It is found in wells, springs, ponds, rivers, canals and oceans. About one fourth of the earth is covered with water. It is obtained mainly from the rain.

Water is really a precious gift of Nature. It has no taste, no smell and no colour. We cannot live without water. We drink it, cook our food with it, and bathe in it. Farmers need water for growing crops and plants. With water, the soil becomes wet and fit for sowing seeds.

Pure water should be used for drinking. Impure water carries germs and spreads diseases. Impure water can be purified by distillation or filtration. Man cannot live without water. Fish and other animals cannot live without water. All living things need water.

World Water Day is on March 22. We must do our best to protect, and prevent the waste and pollution of this precious blessing!
