The festival is to travel to Matara, Kandy and Jaffna early next year.

Organized in collaboration with European Film Academy, the competitive section of the festival will feature short films produced during the last 2 years in Sri Lanka.

Nearly 100 short films from all over the country including the North and the East are ready to compete for the Best Short Film, Best Animated Short Film, Jury Award, Human Rights Award, Most Gender Sensitive Short Film and the Most Promising Young Filmmaker.

Award winning filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara will conduct a Master Class for young filmmakers on December 12 at Goethe Institute in addition to film screening and discussion on December 10 and 12.
“By organizing Agenda 14 Short Film Festival, we plan to start a dialogue on using digital media for expression,” says Festival Director Anoma Rajakaruna.

“With the availability of low cost digital camera equipment and editing software we see lot of young people including university students and school children making short films in Sri Lanka today. Most of them have no proper education in cinema studies or proper training in cinematography or editing,” describes Anoma who herself is also a documentary and short filmmaker.

By organizing a short film festival we plan to create a platform for evaluating their work and to encourage them. During this festival young filmmakers will have an opportunity to interact with each other, exchange ideas and they will have the opportunity to study Internationally acclaimed short films and participate in workshops, Anoma said.
