A twist in the tale

The story of the Three Wise Men, following the path of the stars to visit baby Jesus, has been told and re-told many a time, but this time there’s a twist to it. What fortunes, mishaps and madness did the ‘Magi’ really encounter? – a question that is soon to be answered by the Christian Faith Assembly (CFA) presenting their Christmas stage production “Star of Wonder”

A string of charitable events will be undertaken by the CFA to bring the Christmas spirit to life. The first of which being a stage production with the purpose of spreading good cheer during the season, titled “Star of Wonder” will be staged at Punchi Theartre, Borella from December 7- 9, 2011. The project involves a Christmas theme play and involvement of musical groups.

‘Star of Wonder’ will take the journey of the three wise men to a whole new level, promising to be filled with fun and definitely laughter. This Christmas comedy is thrilling and fulfilling. “Find out what else happened during their strange journey, the mishaps and madness they experienced, the strange individuals that they encountered on their quest and more over the finale of their story which would change their lives forever,” the committee tells us.

The play is produced by Amrik Wilson, and Directed by Suren De-Silva and will feature an ensemble cast including Dominic Kellar, Pasan Ranaweera and Gehan Blok. The musical groups will comprise of the “Little Suprano’s”, “Soul Free”, “Salvage” and “Ruach”.

All proceeds in excess of financing this production will be utilized for the community service projects of the CFA Youth in the efforts to improve the standards of living of the less fortunate.

Community Outreach is another aspect that the CFA is looking at and community outreach programmes such as Open Crowd Festivals are being planned in the coming months.

Apart from the above work CFA Youth will continue to implement other programmes which involve orphanages, children living with HIV/AIDS, children of prisoners residing at the Welikada Prison, and development of rural hospitals.

“Star of Wonder” will be staged at the Punchi Theatre from December 7 -9 at 7.00 pm. Tickets will be available at the Punchi Theatre, and at Video Image Limited, Skelton Road.
