Christmas Album for the season

With the Christmas season around the corner, Christmas songs have started to spring out from every corner of the city. ‘Christ The Saviour is Born’ is the newest Christmas album to hit stores this year. The album consists of the best known Christmas hymns sung by the Archdiocesan Choir of Colombo.

The Archdiocesan Choir Colombo was formed in 2007 by the supreme leadership of Rev. Fr. Prasad Niranjan and was officially appointed as the representative choir of the Archdiocese of Colombo and has represented the Archdiocese at many national events.

The album consists of the most well known English and Sinhalese Christmas carols such as ‘Hark the Herald’, ‘Silent Night’, ‘Ra Tharu Babalanawa’, and ‘Tharuka Piri’. The Archdiocesan Choir Colombo consists of 50 talented and devout choristers, all of who use their voices to sing praises and glorify the name of the Lord.

The Archdiocesan Choir Colombo will be performing all the songs in the album and more on the 27th of November at the Bishops College Auditorium from 7.00pm onwards. Tickets are available at Vibration Union Place and Arpico Hyde Park Corner.

All proceeds of this Christmas event will be forwarded to the Archdiocesan poor Relief fund. The talented group of musicians in the choir took a total of 3 months to record the album and it can now be purchased at Vibrations and all M Entertainment Outlets.

‘Christ The Saviour is Born’ Album is the top attraction of this week’s ‘Star of The Week’. All you have to do is to read the story of the ‘Star of The Week’ and answer the simple question on the coupon and post it to ‘Star of The Week’, Sunday TV Times (Coupon No 20), No 8, Hunupitiya Cross Road, Colombo 2 on or before 6 December.

All answers should be on the coupon No. 20 appearing on today’s TV Times and no photo copies are accepted. The two lucky winners of the Coupon No. 20 will get two albums of ‘Christ The Saviour is Born’ .

The winners of the coupon No 18 are Nikeshala Sewwandi of Bowathennawatte, Kohongahawela and Nalini de Silva of No. 22, Tissa Mawatha, Borupona, Ratmalana.

Leo Art opens this week

This year’s season of Leo Art opened its doors at Leo Burnett quadrangle last Saturday. Launching its 6th season, Leo Art will feature work from seven undergraduates from the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

Leo Art is Leo Burnett’s artists-in-residence programme designed to encourage creativity in the fine arts, by providing artists with a space to express their creative ideas, collaborate with Agency teams on commercial projects and be seen and appreciated by a wider audience.

Explaining further about the programme, Leo Burnett’s Managing Director, Ranil De Silva said, ‘At Leo Burnett we believe that creativity in every form has the ability to transform human behavior. We are very proud of our initiative to foster creativity in fine art and have an ambitious plan for Leo Art. I believe that the 6th season we are premiering this month has a wider selection of work from a cross section of artists.

This year Leo Art will continue to feature and support the work of J.C. Ratnayake, Sanjaya Seneviratne, Vimukthi Sahan and Vishwajith Yashera, while welcoming up coming new artists M.G. Thilini Prabhashini Gunathilaka, Vikum Bandara and Indika Wijerathne.

‘Kiyumbu Latha’ from Malawana

Popular singing star Annesley Malawana released his new CD titled ‘Kiyumbu Latha’ for the festive season. Annesley last released a cd in 2006 to comemorate his 40 years of music. He has made it a point not to change his style of music on this CD and all the songs are in keeping with the 70’s style of music.

Lyrics of the songs were penned by Chandral Fonseka, Theja Iddamalgoda, Saman Gonalagoda, Prashan Fernando, Premalal Arsakularatne, Shelton Weeraratne and Premasiri Balachandra. The music composed by Chandral Fonseka of ‘Kings’ fame,Theja Iddamalgoda, and Prashan Fernando. Music was directed by Chandral Fonseka.

Nelu Adikari and Shyami Fonseka joined in the duets. Sarath Kotalawala of Torana Music Box is the producer of this CD. Annesley said, its good to come out with something new in keeping with his style of singing. He hopes to sing a few of the songs in the CD during the upcomming season.
