IMSL's initiative to help aspiring managers

Certificate course in Business & Management ( CBM ) to be launched in January
The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) the apex national body in the field of professional management in Sri Lanka, dedicated to promoting professional management in the country, recently celebrated an important milestone of completing 25 years of service to the country. Having been inaugurated on 31st July 1986, IMSL was the first Management Association in Sri Lanka to be incorporated by an Act of Parliament on 17th December 1988.

Today, IMSL is a full member of the Asian Association of Management Organizations (AAMO), as Sri Lanka’s sole representative in AAMO. IMSL aims to play a catalytic role in inspiring managers to be leaders by providing them a forum for sharing knowledge and best practices while promoting the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical values amongst members.

Their latest venture is to launch a Certificate Course in Business & Management to cater to the needs of young managers who aspire to go up the corporate ladder and IMSL's subcommittee on Education, headed by Dr Sarath Kodituwakku and assisted by Ms Buddhini Dankanda, is planning to commence this programme by January 2012.

The Course
IMSL Certificate Course in Business and Management (CBM) is a one year programme that will enable students to gain a broader understanding across all basic management functions and will provide them with essentials in order to progress with their academic and professional studies in the domain of business and management.

This course has been designed to also help students gain competence in basic technical and conceptual skills that would help in their career path . Group activities/ assignments have also been included to make students develop their group participation abilities and collective decision making aptitude.

It will be conducted in two semesters that would cover the subjects - General Management, Accounting and Finance,Quantitative Techniques, Management Information Systems, Management Accounting, Decision Making and Business Communication.

Eligibility
Managers and Executives who aspire to advance their careers, University students in any discipline, school leavers having passed the Advanced Level examination or the Ordinary Level examination with two years working experience or those with substantial work experience even without formal qualifications would be eligible to follow this course.

The programme will be conducted in English and students would be awarded the IMSL Certificate in Business & Management (CBM) upon successful completion of the examinations at the end of the two semesters.
