Asanka followed the basics in music with Dilup Gabadamudalige in 1999. He started professionally in 2000 playing a contract at the GOH with the band Shine. Later contracts at Hilton, Mount Royal, Triton, Palm Garden, Eden, Blue Water, Austasia, MGM, Bally’s & Bellagio, while playing with bands he also performs as an one man keyboardist covering weddings & other private functions, he further displayed his versatile keyboard abilities on the popular TV entertainment programme SAVANATA VADANAK for three consecutive years. 2007-2008-2009

Bands he has played with are ‘Shine’ 2000 – 2003, Original ‘Heat’ with Janath 2004 – 2005, ‘Breeze’ 2005 – 2006, ‘Water’ 2006 – to date, ‘Judy & Scintillate’ - 2010 to date. With the full band ‘Water’ he plays at three contracts in Colombo, with ‘Judy & Scintillate’ they perform as a quartet with Asanka on keyboards/vocals and Samudra Devanarayana on guitar/vocals backing the popular mother and daughter combination Kanthie & Judy de Silva. He is one of the most sort after keyboardists engaged in work all seven days of the week.

Talking about taking on challenges… being a commercialized musician playing mostly popular English, Sinhala and Hindi songs, Kanthie de Silva veteran Jazz singer spotted Asanka’s potential and perseverance as a musician and suggested him to back Kanthie and Judy at the Jazz Unlimited Session.

On the 4th September he made his début appearance at the Jazz Unlimited Session playing alongside Timal Jayamane and Royle Andrews two more experienced jazz musicians joined in by Basil Paiva and Rashid Abdur Rahman together with Samudra Devanarayana on guitar. He proved to be a true live musician playing the piano and keyboards handling difficult songs such as This Masquerade, Fly me to the moon, Shadow of your smile, Mas que Nada, Blue Moon, Blue Skies, Night Birds by Shakatak, Night and Day by Cole Porter, Caravan by Duke Ellington...etc… he was well received and highly complimented by experienced jazz musicians, regular members and guests present at the event.
With this era where lots of solo keyboardists are depending on midi files Asanka has mastered the keyboard he uses and plays 100% live music.

Majestic to get three more cinemas

A good news to cinema lovers, the Majestic City complex will soon add three more cinema halls to the existing newly refurbished Majestic cinema on its fourth floor.

Following the world trend of multi-complex cinema halls system, the move by Ceylon Theatres private limited would enable to release several latest movies at once and would attract many theatre goers to country’s capital.

One of the leading cinema theatres in Colombo, Majestic was reopened recently with Bollywood blockbuster ‘Ra- One’ after a refurbishment. Two-weeks long refurbishment included replacing a new screen and new seating facility with a cost of Rs. 10 million.

The Majestic cinema housed in the Majestic city complex was opened in 1995 and it was later leased out to a different movie distributor. In 2002 Ceylon Theatres Ltd took it back and refurbished with dolby digital sound system and opened with the release of ‘The Lord of the Ring’.
