Lasantha killing: One suspect dies

One of the suspects in the killing of former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickramatunga died of a heart attack at the Colombo General Hospital yesterday.

The suspect named Jesudasan had been taken into custody for allegedly being in possession of the SIM card of the cellular phone of the slain editor and has been in custody for more than two years.

He had been admitted to the hospital on Thursday with a chest pain and died yesterday in the hospital.
Mr. Wickramatunga was killed in January 2009 and several suspects are in custody in connection with his killing.

PC allegedly beaten up while on ‘night duty’

A police constable who entered a house at Ronanapura, Tissamaharama on Monday night has been allegedly assaulted by an unidentified group after tying him to a tree, according to Tissamaharama police.

The police had visited the scene after receiving information that a suspicious person had entered the house.

The constable has been admitted to Debarawewa hospital along with two persons who are alleged to have assaulted the policeman, all with minor injuries.According to the residents an illicit love affair is involved in this case, and police have also recorded a statement from a woman.
