The OBA of Isipathana conducted a press briefing to elaborate their plans on the forthcoming walk at the Bloomfield Sports Club last Wednesday (September 28). At the occasion the new principal of Isipathana, A.C. Perera who happens to be a past pupil of the school explained the importance of a swimming pool for the school which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2012.

“Without the facility of a ground we became competent contenders in rugby and cricket while producing players to the national level. In swimming too we are gradually making a big impact. This is my initial challenge to the OBA and they are confident to achieve what is required. Through this project of a swimming pool complex our aim is to facilitate our sportsmen with much needed physical training in addition to maintaining a strong swimming team. We also hope to give other schools and clubs the facility of making use of our swimming complex,” Perera told reporters.

The proposed swimming pool will measure 25 meters in length and will consist of eight lanes. The total cost to construct the swimming pool complex is estimated between rupees 40 and 50 million and the organizers hope to collect rupees 10 million through the entire project. In addition to the walk the project includes raising funds from their international wings based at many locations around the world.
