Gateway students win Gold and Silver awards at Young Computer Scientist Awards

Students of Gateway win Gold and Silver medals at both Senior and Junior level along with twelve Merit awards in the International School category. The Gold winners are selected to represent Sri Lanka for APICTA, Thailand.

Outstanding performances of students of Gateway Colleges and the Gateway Kids School of Computing were the highlights of the Young Computer Scientist 2011 Awards Ceremony held recently at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo. Every year, the Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI) organises the Young Computer Scientist competition in association with the Ministry of Education. The competition is held in search of young talent island wide and is open to all schools in Sri Lanka. This year's Awards ceremony was graced by Hon. Bandula Gunawardena, the Minister of Education.

Pamodh Yasawardena of Gateway School of Computing, Nugegoda won the Gold medal for the Junior category for the second successive year for his project named Family Mate. Buddhi Krishan Chandana Mendis of Gateway School of Computing, Galle won the Gold medal for the Senior category for his project of a patients' records and appointment system. Pamodh has been selected to represent Sri Lanka for APICTA to be held in Thailand. The group project of Abdul Samad, Haris Hassan, Sahid Naushad of Gateway College, Colombo won the Silver medal for the Junior category for the second successive year. The group project of Ryan Sebastian, Navindu Manujaya Samarakkodi, Devin Yasas Samayamanthi and Praveen Sankaja of Gateway College, Colombo won the Silver medal for the Senior category.

Udara Pasanjith Jayawardena, Sajana Sathsara Rathnayake, Manoj Sivananan, Pankaja Withanarachchi, Rukshana Sundar, Hanushika Thurairajah, Binuri Ranasinghe, Bumindu Diyes, Thivanka De Silva, Triyan Perera, Selaka Kaluhendiwela and Zaid Rizwan of Gateway College, Colombo, Swin Rathnayake of Gateway College, Negombo, Abdul Muizz Rizvan of Gateway School of Computing Bambalapitiya, Rashiprabha Hansamali Wijayathilaka, Aishcharya Mario Kahandawala, Mohomed Shehan Mufid Carrim, Gayanga Wijesena and Munasibha Arachchilage Asitha Munasinghe of Gateway School of Computing Nugegoda, and Hashiq Umer Umerthambi and Mohamed Ijaz Abdul Careem of Gateway School of Computing Rodney Street, Borella won merit awards for their projects.
