Denzil Fernando no more

Leading Athlete of yesteryear Denzil Fernando who represented Sri Lanka on many occasions passed away. He was a member of the Asian Games squad along with N. Ethirveerasingham, P Don Victor and T D S A Dissanayake He was a versatile athlete whose pet event was the 800 metres in which he held records for many years both here and abroad. He went on to the masters games where he established many records too.

He was an old boy of St Sebastian’s Moratuwa and was a member of the Ace Athletic club, and a member of the CT & FC while he spent his leisure time at the CR and FC. He was one time athletic coach at Methodist College, Bishops and Ladies' College and gave fitness to the centenary Royal cricket team which was lead by Ranjan Madugalle. His funeral takes place on Monday 12th from A F Raymond’s Funeral Parlour.
