Just for laughs

A Chaotic situation occurs almost everyday in live theatre. A scandal, a quick exist, the predictable and un-predictable villain, the damsel in distress and the abrupt conclusion which makes a spectator only wonder, what is to happen next?

Nevertheless, such stereo typical situations never bore an audience. This September will see the Lionel Wendt Theatre fill with laughter again with ’It’s Chaos At The Vicarage’……(See How They Run) written by Philip King. The show will be a British comedy staged in Colombo after many years. The show set from September 23 -25 will bring back the nostalgia revolving around the war-comedy era of the 1940’s.

The production is directed by Trudy Herft, Produced by Jith Peiris and Presented by the Creative Arts Foundation.

The plot is far from ordinary. In fact a certain element of confusion (therefore ‘Chaos’) will persist, which contributes immensely to its comic element. Note –What happens when you have a German Officer AND a British Corporal disguised as the village vicar among the existing village vicar, A Bishop and another queer Vicar. Confused? Well, allow one to elaborate in detail. ‘Chaos’ instills itself at the vicarage of the village, ‘Merton cum Middle wick’, where a German Soldier and British Corporal coincidently disguise themselves as parsons thereby proclaiming themselves as the village vicar who too is ‘Around and About’ the vicarage.

To add to the confusion, a Bishop and another queer parson involve themselves in the situation.
The audience will witness these clergymen and supposed imposters woo the Mistress of the vicarage (The damsel in distress), handle a large spinster and despise an irritating maid.

Unite with the village Sergeant in solving this ironic puzzle. Well, it is a mystery humourously evident to any spectator. Box office opens on Monday September 12 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre. Be a part of the chaos!
