Sanjeewa nets two goals to give Navy easy win

Forward Chathuranga Sanjeewa netted two goals to steer Navy Sports Club to an influential 3-0 win over Blue Star in a Dialog Champions League football match played at Welisara yesterday. Playing under soggy conditions, Navy spread their dominance from the first whistle on home turf to put a weak Blue Star outfit on the defense right from the start. With this win Navy remain unbeaten in the league after three games with two wins and a draw.

Chathuranga was accurate with a scoring opportunity that came across shortly after the first whistle as he shot a solid curve-kick to give Navy an early lead. Midfielder Chrysteen Fernando who took over as the stand-in skipper was spot on when he netted a penalty to give Navy a 2-0 at half time.

Blue Star showed guts in the second half as they made a gallant return to give Navy a strong fight but their strikers failed to put the finishing touches to a few opportunities that came their way. Instead Chathuranga returned to give his team a perfect ending when he scored his second goal which sealed the game in favour of Navy.

Meanwhile the remaining two Dialog Champions League football matches scheduled for yesterday were called off due to heavy rain. The matches between Saunders and Renown at Kelaniya Football Complex and Police SC and Air Force SC at Police Park will be rescheduled according to football officials.
